Reports suggest that Liverpool are thinking of recalling Divock Origi this January. Liverpool bought the young striker from Lille this summer and immediately loaned him back to the French club.
Origi has been in impressive form recently and such reports emerging doesn’t come as a shock. The form of Liverpool strikers, the summer additions in the form Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert has been sub-par to say the least. In the absence of Daniel Sturridge, the two have failed to create any spark in front of goal.
This is not to belittle their qualities. The two don’t particularly fit Liverpool’s style of play, which is fast attacks and counter-attacks. The movement among the likes of Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana is very pacey and when the ball reaches Balotelli and Lambert, there is an extremely evident lack of pace and the entire momentum shifts. Origi would have been a perfect replacement for Sturridge in his absence over the past month.
The Belgium striker recently scored and set up a goal in Belgium’s friendly and got hailed as a monster by captain Vincent Kompany, who also said that if he continues his current form and the hard work he puts in during training, he can go on to become one of the top ten strikers in the world in four-five years.

The striker himself is keen to impress Rodgers, and recently admitted that the two keep in regular contact.Ai??Origi said, “The Liverpool manager regularly sends me a text message. They follow me and scouts attend all my games.Ai??Rodgers wanted to add me to his squad immediately, but Lille wanted me to stay for one more season. I had no choice.Ai??It’s not that I don’t want to go to Liverpool, I have ambitions.Ai??But it’s an advantage I’m at Lille for a season where I can continue to develop and play a lot. Its uncertain at the moment whether these reports carry any truth in them. It would certainly be difficult for Liverpool to convince Lille who apparently only agreed to sell the youngster after they learned the Reds were willing to loan him back for one season. However, it would be incorrect to rule out these reports since by the looks of Liverpool’s sub-par attack this season, the management could certainly be interested in getting Origi on board. Rodgers has even gone on record earlier that he wanted to use Origi this season, but was unable too, due to the transfer agreement between Liverpool and Lille.Ai??The 19 year old has scored four goals and grabbed two assists for Lille so far this season.
