Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has revealed he rejected a move to Arsenal as he wanted to work under Diego Simeone.
Atletico Madrid bought Antoine Griezmann from Real Sociedad in the summer. Griezmann was in terrific form last season, where he scored16 goals and notched 4 assists in the league.Ai??and this good run of form earned him a World Cup call-up as well. There was obviously a lot of interest in him andAi??Tottenham, Liverpool, Arsenal, PSG and AS Monaco were all linked with the player.
Griezmann possesses incredible pace and amazing technical ability that make him a huge threat for any side. He creates chances along with converting them, as was visible last season. The fact that he can be fielded in different positions- as a forward or on the wings- only adds to his profile. The French international also regularly tracks back, and does not get lazy to contribute in the defence. Griezmann has now gone ahead and confirmed that Arsenal and PSG were both interested in him but he wanted to tee up with last season’s La Liga Champions and work under Diego Simeone.
Griezmann, speaking to France Football, said: ‘Was it weird when PSG and Arsenal were also interested? [Atletico are] still the champions of Spain!Ai??Why Spain and not elsewhere? Griezmann is yet to score a goal for Atletico in the league but has scored for the Spanish side in the Champions League, in the 3-2 loss to Olympiakis. He also scored a goal against Armenia yesterday in his France’s 3-0 win against the minnows.
