Liverpool FC striker Daniel Sturridge is fighting hard to be back in time for the Everton game at the end of the month.
The striker sustained a thigh injury while training for England and scans have revealed that the 25 year old will be ruled out for two to three weeks. The playerAi??limped out of training with England last Friday and was could not play any part in his side’s win over Switzerland in the Euro 2016 qualifiers on Monday night.Ai??He came back to Melwood for treatment. Sturridge will miss Liverpool’s weekend clash with Aston Villa for sure as well as next Tuesdayai??i??s opening Champions League group match against Ludogorets at Anfield. This will definitely be a bigger blow as the Reds play their first Champions League game after a sizable gap of five years.
The Englishman will remain a doubt for next weekendai??i??s trip to West Ham and the following Captain One Cup match against Middlesbrough.
Liverpool will be hoping that Sturridge will recover in time to face Everton at Anfield on Saturday, September 27. Last season, the 25 year old came off the bench and scored a last gasp equalizer in the 3-3 draw at Goodison park, a result which gave the Reds a point and made for an incredible derby. In the game at Anfield, the England international scored a brace in the 4-0 win and could have even scored a hat-trick, but he miscued the spot-kick.
Liverpool ECHO write that the Liverpool medical staff believe that the player can even recover in time to face West Ham, but the Everton game is the realistic target for the striker. They say: Sturridge has recovered from previous injuries ahead of schedule and medical staff believe he could yet play some part against West Ham but the Merseyside derby is regarded as a more realistic target for his comeback.
It’ll be interesting to see how Brendan Rodgers uses his team in Sturridge’s absence. Rickie Lambert or Fabio Borini could be started alongside summer signing Mario Balotelli, or the Northern Irishman can start with the 4-3-3 formation and use Lazar Markovic or Philippe Coutinho on the left flank.
