Liverpool are about to make their busy transfer business even busier by getting two Spanish full backs- Alberto Moreno and Javier Manquillo
Liverpool have revived their interest in Sevilla full-back Alberto Moreno. Moreno has been linked with a move to Anfield all summer long and the Reds were said to have made two notable approaches to land the Spaniard. The first one was early on in the window and it was reported that the player was on his way with his father to Liverpool, to undergo a medical. However, it was later made clear that no such deal had been agreed on and the Reds were unwilling to haggle for his services with Sevilla. They were offering 16m, but the Spanish club didn’t go below their valuation of 20m. A second approach was reportedly made when Iago Aspas joined Sevilla on loan. Rumors of a deal being back on started doing rounds but Ian Ayre, Liverpool’s CEO returned to UK without having negotiated a purchase of the 22 year old.
It was then brought to the fore that Brendan Rodgers was looking at other targets. None of the left back targets could also be attained- Chelsea refused to sell Bertrand to the Reds and he was instead loaned to Southampton; Ben Davies was sold to Tottenham so that Sigurdsson could go other way.
It seems that Liverpool will now do everything to get their number one left-back target to Anfield. Moreno is also reported to be keen to move to last season’s Premier League runners up.
Moreno shone in Spain last season and helped his side win the Europa League.Ai??He came through the youth ranks at Sevilla and made his senior debut in April 2012.Ai??Moreno’s wonderful season helped him be named in the provisional 30-man squad for the World Cup, but he was eventually axed in the final list.
He would be a wonderful addition to the Liverpool side looking to increase their depth and quality for next season where they return to the Champions League and try to make a planned title challenge. Jose Enrique is the team’s current first choice left back. The recurring injuries to Enrique have halted his progress with the Merseyside club and Rodgers wants an upgrade for that spot. Moreno was easily fit into the starting 11 and Rodgers would have a good back-up in Enrique.
Liverpool Sealing Move For Manquillo
The Reds seem to be sealing a move for Atletico Madrid’s young right back Javier Manquillo.Ai??The 20-year-old is expected to sign initially on loan but the Reds will have an option to make the move permanent. Manquillo is a highly rated Spanish full back who has interested various parties this summer that include Arsenal and Marseille.
Diego Simeone rates the player very highly and refused to sell him to Liverpool last winter because the Premier League club didn’t put a buy-back clause in his contract. It seems that Rodgers is now close to getting the player he has admired for a while.
Manquillo is one for the future but he has shown aptitude and ability to play at the highest level already. Give Johnson’s poor form, it is likely that the Spanish right back is included in the starting 11 by Rodgers straight-away. Young Flanagan and Manquillo could possibly fight it out for the first team spot. Johnson’s experience could come handy, whenever Rodgers uses him, if the Englishman ends up staying with the Reds. But in all probability, Manquillo would replace Johnson in the starting 11.
