Brazil have appealed against the yellow card Thiago Silva received against Colombia, which will see him miss their semi-final clash against Germany.
Goals from Thiago Silva and David Luiz provided Brazil with a win over Colombia in their quarter-final clash, but Neymarai??i??s injury and Silvaai??i??s suspension has affected their hopes of beating Germany in the semi-finals. Brazil has now decided to appeal against the yellow card, FIFA has confirmed.
This was Thiago Silvaai??i??s second bookable offence in the tournament, the first of which arrived against Mexico in the group stages. Against Colombia, Silva was booked after he impeded Thibaut Courtoisai??i?? attempt to kick and the ball. The PSG defender picked up a yellow card after that incident and will now miss the semi-final clash against Germany.
His absence will severely cripple Brazilai??i??s chance of beating this efficient Germany side, especially when they are already missing their talisman Neymar, who suffered a critical injury in the last game. The host nation has now decided to appeal against his yellow card in order to make Silva eligible for the next game.
“I can confirm we have received an appeal from the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation)Ai??and this is being analysed.” ai??i?? FIFAai??i??s media head, Delia Fischer, said.
It seems unlikely that this appeal will succeed though, despite CBF stating that the yellow was unjustly shown.
Meanwhile Neymar, whose World Cup is over, has released a statement saying that he still hopes that his side can progress to the final and lift the trophy. The Barcelona forward has received tremendous support from fans all across the world and his emotional statement might galvanize the Brazilian side ahead of their semi-final clash.
