FIFA have opened proceedings against Liverpool striker Luis Suarez for allegedly biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguayai??i??s match against Italy.
Uruguay defeated Italy in their high profile clash last night and the South American side booked their place in the next round. Italy went down to 10-man after Claudio Marchisio was sent off for a rough challenge, while captain Diego Godin scored the winner in the 81st minute of the game with a thumping header. But it was Luis Suarez who grabbed all the headlines with another moment of madness on the pitch.
In an off the ball incident the Liverpool striker was involved in an altercation with Italian center back Giorgio Chiellini and replays showed that Suarez proceeded with intent towards the Juventus defender and allegedly attempted a bite. Chiellini was left furious and ran towards the official to show the bite marks, but the officials refused to take any action.
Suarez expectedly grabbed all the headlines due to that incident and his past record of attempting something similar on two more opponents, the latest of which was in a much talked about incident involving Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. Now FIFA has decided to open proceedings against the Uruguayan striker and Suarez could possibly face multi-match bans, if proved guilty.
