Brendan Rodgers has said that Liverpool will need to assess the fitness of Daniel Sturridge ahead of the trip to Norwich City this weekend
Liverpool’s striker Daniel Sturridge limping off from the Manchester City game caused the fans a serious scare as an injury to a player so important to Liverpool has come at a crucial time for the club. Liverpool are fighting for the title at the moment and need all their players fit for the remaining four matches, starting with Norwich on Sunday.
The striker is undergoing a treatment programme at Melwood after a scan detected a small hamstring strain. Brendan Rodgers has given the fans a sense of relief after claiming that the injury is not ‘too serious’, and wouldn’t keep the player out for a long time.
“He may struggle for the weekend.”, said the Northern Irishman
“It’s not too serious and won’t keep him out for too many weeks, but he may be out for the weekend.Ai??We’ll assess it more over the next couple of days, but that’s how we’re looking at it at the moment.”
Rodgers added that the England striker might even be available for the weekend, if he made progress in training and recovered in time:
“He may well make a real good recovery over the next few days and be ready for the weekend.
“At this moment in time we’re just assessing him and seeing how he goes because he does recover very quickly. Before the first game of the season, he’d only played 45 minutes of football before he played and scored the winner [against Stoke].
“It’s certainly not as serious as what sometimes a hamstring injury can be.”

Brendan Rodgers has recently employed the 4-4-2 diamond formation and played Suarez and Sturridge in their favored center forward spot. With the latter being out, it would be interesting to see how the Liverpool manager shapes his team with one of the ‘S’ missing from the club’s deadly ‘SAS’ attacking duo.
Jordan Henderson would be missing as he received a red card during Liverpool’s clash with City after he made a lunging tackle on the Sky Blues midfielder Samir Nasri.
