Arsenal FC defender Per Mertesacker is excited about rumours linking the Gunners with a move for Julian Draxler.
Schalke star Julian Draxler has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates recently as Arsene Wenger seems keen to add the highly rated German international to his squad. Reports suggested that Wenger sees him as someone who can be converted into a center forward, like he has done in the past with Robin van Persie and Theirry Henry, although it seems unlikely that the 20-year-old will move out of Germany before the summer.
Fellow German international Per Mertesacker is extremely excited about these reports though, and has insisted that Draxler will be welcomed at the Emirates.
“He is a great talent. He has already made a big impact at Schalke and in the German national team, despite his young age.
“He would be very welcome here. I’m excited to see what happens.” ai??i?? The Arsenal defender told the London Evening Standard in an interview.
The growing German contingent in the Arsenal squad is one of the reasons why the Gunners are considered as the favorites to land him, although his injury might have delayed this move. Earlier reports suggested that Draxler might be out of action till March, but now it is believed that he could return for Schalke in four weeks.

Meanwhile, in an interesting report published in Mirror, Darren Lewis writes that Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy will block Schalkeai??i??s move for Lewis Holtby in order to make it tougher for Arsenal to sign Draxler. Schalke, who have already signed Sidney Sam for next season from Bayer Leverkusen, are reportedly also interested in signing their former player Holtby as a replacement for Draxler.
