Liverpool FC are eyeing a move for Olympiacos striker and Greece international Kostas Mitroglou.
Kostas Mitroglou, who started his professional career with Borussia Monchengladbach, joined Olympiacos in 2007 after impressing in the U-19 European championship. The 25-year-old initially struggled to grab a regular place in the starting line-up at his new club, but after two successful loan spells with Panionios and Atromitos, he became a key player for Olympiacos last season. Mitroglou has scored 16 goals in the league in 28 appearances in the 2012-13 campaign and has drawn interest from a lot of clubs across Europe.
This season the Greece international has been in amazing form scoring 17 goals in 15 appearances in all competitions. Last month he scored two back to back hat-trick, first against Anderlecht in the Champions League followed by another against Veria in the league just four days later. Inter Milan, AS Roma, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool have monitored his progress at the club this season and Olympiacos are sure to receive a lot offers from him in the January transfer window.
Olympiacos Sports Director Pierre Issa is aware of the interest in his clubai??i??s prized asset, but has recently stated that the striker wonai??i??t be sold in January as they look keep hold of him.

But recent reports suggest that Liverpool are the front runners in the chase to sign the exciting forward and they are confident of getting a deal done in January. Liverpoolai??i??s Head of Recruitment Dave Fallows and chief scout Barry Hunter were in Romania recently to watch over Mitroglou during the second leg of the World Qualification play-off between Romania and Greece. The Olympiacos striker scored the all-important opening goal in the game to confirm Greeceai??i??s place in the World Cup next year. He also scored a brace in the first leg to give his side a two goal advantage.
Brendan Rodgers is highly impressed with the report his scouts have delivered about Kostas Mitroglou this season and will push for a move in January. Liverpool are reportedly preparing a 7 million pound bid for the prolific striker, but Olympiacos are unlikely to sell him that cheaply. His currently contract runs till 2016 and possible bidding war for Liverpool with the likes of Inter is sure to increase his price.
Liverpool currently have the most prolific strikers in the league at the moment in Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, but Rodgers is keen to add a back-up for them in the squad. With Borini out on loan, Liverpool only have Iago Aspas in the current first team squad who can play a similar role upfront. But the Spaniard has been far from impressive since his arrival and Mitroglou will add the much needed depth to the squad. Moreover, he is versatile enough to play both as a supporting striker and as a wide forward.
Arsenal are also believed to be monitoring Mitroglou recently as they look to strengthen their weak strike force as well.
