Transfer News -Ai??Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto.
The Spaniard joined the Catalan clubai??i??s youth ranks back in 2006. After impressing for the Barcelona B side, he finally made his first team debut back in the 2010-11 season. But since then the 21-year-old has made only 15 appearances for them. This season under new manager Gerardo Martinez, Sergi has made three league appearances in the league so far, although all of them came as a substitute. For a player with such immense potential, he certainly hasnai??i??t received enough opportunity to shine at the big stage.
Reports in England suggest that Manchester United are eyeing a move for him in the January transfer window and Tottenham have also joined the race. Spursai??i?? interest in the midfielder is not something new though, they have already failed with an attempt to sign him on loan in the summer.
David Moyes is believed to be impressed with the reports he has received from his scouts about the Spanish midfielder and see him as a key addition to the squad, which certainly lacks depth at the center of the park. Sergi is the third Barcelona midfielder United have been linked with this season after their failed attempt to sign Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara. David Moyes also failed to land Ander Herrera on the deadline day, but finally managed to sign Marouane Fellaini from Everton.
Sergi Robertoai??i??s current contract expires in 2015 and reports suggest that he could consider a move away from Barcelona in order to gain regular first team action. While He is unlikely to get that at Tottenham, with all their recent arrivals, he will certainly get a lot more game time at Manchester United considering the fairly underwhelming start Fellaini has had to his career and the recent reports of his injury. Both Tottenham and United are expected to make their move in the winter transfer window.
