5 Outstanding Transfer Coups – Premier League 2013-14

After an absolute breathtaking and at times chaotic transfer deadline day, the dust seems to have settled and finally the squads are ready for the slog. It was dramatic and surreal at times as big name clubs failed to close deals on the nth hour. Man United look to have come out the worst, while fierce rivals City and Liverpool had strong transfer windows to bolster their claim.

While money is often regarded as the major criteria to judge the merits of a transfer, it shouldnai??i??t be the only one. A player could be worth more to team A as compared to team B if they lack in that specific department of the field, hence everything in the end boils down to the demand-supply theory. There are numerous other factors at work, like the availability and feasibility of acquiring a replacement for the departed player et al.

We at THT try to highlight some deals which made more sense than the others. Will your club gamble and come out on top?

5) Emanuele Giaccherini ai??i?? Sunderland (A?6.8m from Juventus)

Emanuele-giaccherini

The capture of Giaccherini shocked a lot of fans worldwide as no one could envisage Sunderland landing such an established star. Signed from Italian champions Juventus, Giaccherini is indeed the marquee signing for Di Canioai??i??s Sunderland side. The Black Cats have invariably lacked fire power in their squad and with StAi??phane SessA?gnon now plying his trade at the Hawthhorns, the Italian international will be the key to PDCai??i??s revolution at the Stadium of light. Giaccherini will add style and panache to Sunderlandai??i??s style of play and along with Seb Larsson and Adam Johnson could serve as one of the most entertaining attacking combinations in the league.

4) Nathan Redmond ai??i?? Norwich City (A?3m from Birmingham City)

Chris Hughton has quietly built up a decent Premier league outfit and the Canaries will perhaps aim to finish in the top half if their new signings kick into gear. While Wolfswinkel is definitely the more glamorous signing, Redmond can be equally effective if he continues to improve on his last season performances. Under-21 winger was a real menace in the Championship last year and decimated sides with his quick pace and direct running. Redmond typically plays as a wide midfielder and is right-footed, but has regularly played on both right and left wings, often cutting inside. His versatility makes him a prized asset and Hughton has done well to land him despite interest from the usual suspects.

Redmond has been tipped to be a future England international and a good showing could perhaps catapult the youngster into Roy Hodgsonai??i??s senior side. For now, Norwich fans can hope to be enthralled by his brilliance down the wings.
