Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Named African Player Of 2015 Ahead Of Yaya Toure

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been having a brilliant season at Borussia Dortmund and has had his hard work rewarded as he became the first player since Samuel Eto’o, to be named the best African player ahead of Yaya Toure.

Aubameyang has been on fire in 2015, and has been on a different level altogether this season, scoring 27 goals in as many games at the German club.

Toure, who had won the award for four consecutive years from 2011 to 2014, came second in the race for the prize, just seven points behind Aubameyang, who got 143 points, according to CAF’s official website. The third place was earned by Swansea City forward Andre Ayew, who was far off from the Dortmund-Manchester City duo, amassing just 112 points.

Aubameyang hot property in Europe

His stellar performances has set the scouts from all the top teams in Europe scurrying to every Borussia Dortmund game, to get an assessment of Aubameyang. Arsenal FC have been hugely linked with a move for the Gabon star, but they would surely have a lot of competition from other top teams from Europe, for Aubameyang’s signature.

Toure past his prime?

Yaya Toure is 32 years old, and anyone who follows Manchester City’s performance closely would agree that the Ivorian midfielder is not the big influence he once was in the middle of the park for the Citizens. In his stead, the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, and Sergio Aguero are pulling Manchester City through. However, a string of poor performances has left City a bit behind in the title race, and questions are being raised about Toure’s age finally catching up with him.
