Wayne Rooney Drops Hint Of MLS Move

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has said he would consider a move to Major League Soccer once his Old Trafford career is over.

The veteran striker told The Seattle Times newspaper in an interview Thursday he was open to the possibility of following in the footsteps of former England team-mates Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard, who have both joined MLS clubs recently.

“I’m obviously concentrating on Manchester United,” Rooney told the paper as United prepared to open their four-match tour of the United States against Club America of Mexico in Seattle on Friday.

But Rooney, who still has four years left to run on his current United contract, acknowledged an MLS swansong would be considered when the time came to wind down his career in the Premier League.

“When that time comes, that’ll be something I’d think about. (I’ll) sit down with my wife and children and decide if it would be right for me,” the 29-year-old star said.

After Friday’s game United play the San Jose Earthquakes and Barcelona in California next week before facing Paris St Germain in Chicago.
