Scholesy - Where does the wizard fit in the diamond?

a The only great English midfielder in my career was Paul Scholes. He had elegance in him. Others were pretenders.a

These words were spoken by none other than Italya s midfield maestro Andrea Pirlo.

Former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul Scholes has drawn praise from all quarters during his playing career because of his immaculate passing abilities, with footballing greats like Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldinho, Thiery Henry, Lionel Messi and many more openly expressing their awe for the former Manchester United player.

However, apart from his passing abilities, Scholes was also known for his fierce shooting and this is something that the now 40-year-old does not seem to have lost at all. In fact, he rolled back the years, with an ever-so-familiar 35-yard shot that flew into the goal, bulging the back of the net in an exhibition match.

Scholes was playing for the Premier League All-Stars XI, in Hong Kong, with the likes of Robert Pires, Robbie Fowler, and Lee Sharpe.

Scholes had retired from professional football, in 2011, only to make a comeback just six months later, showing that he still had it in him to perform week-in week-pout, in the Premier League.

Although he ultimately went on to hang-pup his boots in 2013, this immaculate strike by the former Manchester United No. 18 shows that he might still give most of the contemporary Premier League midfielders a real run for their money.
