Goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Blaise Matuidi saw PSG grab a win over Manchester United in the International Champions Cup in Chicago.
The Angel Di Maria transfer saga provided an interesting backdrop to this game in Chicago. Manchester United came into the match on the back of three consecutive wins, the most recent of which came against Barcelona. But their preseason tour ended on a sour note as a leaky defence was taken to sword by the French champions in the first half.
Matuidi opened the scoring for PSG in the 25th . minute of the match. Lucas Moura dropped deep on the left and found Matuidia s run with a lovely ball over the top of the United defence. The French international shrugged off Phil Jones and poked it past the onrushing David de Gea, before Luke Shaw could clear.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has been linked with Manchester United this summer, doubled the French cluba s lead nine minutes later. The move once again started with Moura, who drifted in from the wing and found Zlatan with reverse pass. The Swede ran at the Manchester United defence and played a pass out wide to Maxwell. The Brazilian had a lot of space to run onto, as Matteo Darmian was caught out of position. The full back then picked out Zlatan with a low cross, who continued his run into the box and tapped it past a helpless David de Gea.
United tried to get back into the game, but failed to cause too much trouble for Kevin Trapp in the PSG goal. Louis van Gaal will be worried by the amount of space and time his teama s defence gave to the PSG attackers, especially in the first half of the match. But despite this defeat, the Dutchman do have a lot of positive to take home from this tour, ahead of their opening Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
