On a night where not much went wrong for FC Bayern Munich, midfielder Xabi Alonso provided a moment of comedy gold, taking one of the worst corners you are ever likely to see.
Bayern Munich reaffirmed their tag as favourites for the UEFA Champions League with an emphatic 5-1 win against Arsenal FC at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday. The Bavarian giants dominated from start to finish, routinely exposing the Gunners’ defence with their dynamism and attacking verve.
As such, there was precious little to celebrate in the match for Arsenal FC fans, but FC Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso showed that even the best can embarrass themselves with his truly shocking effort from a corner. Unsurprisingly, the gaffe went viral on social media sites such as Twitter immediately, and the Spaniard is unlikely to be allowed to forget the moment any time soon.
