Philippe Mexes scored an absolutely ridiculous volley last night, helping AC Milan to a victory over arch-rivals Inter Milan in a pre-season friendly in China.
The 33-year-old unleashed an acrobatic scissor-kick volley from the edge of the box, hitting the corner from Giacomo Bonaventura past the helpless Samir Handanovic, as he gave his side the lead, which they held on to for the remainder of the match, despite going a man down, after Antonio Nocerino was shown a straight red-card for a two-footed lunge on new signing Geoffrey Kondogbia.
In general I have seen a growth in Milan – Philippe Mexes
Mexes believes that the fallen Italian giants win over Inter Milan, is a proof of the significant improvement that they have undergone over the summer. The Rossoneri would look to improve on their dismal 10th placed finish from last season under new boss Sinisa Mihajlovic. Speaking to the press following the win over Inter, the defender said:
“It takes some luck to score a goal like that.
“In general I have seen a growth in Milan.
“Wearing this shirt is always an honour, a pride that cannot be matched.
“We beat Inter, the president was very keen to win this game.
“Now we must build on this, united and following the directions of new coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.
“We have a stronger team than last year.” .
The ridiculous volley from the 33-year-old is an early contender for the Goal of The Season award, one which even former team-mate and Puskas winner, Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be proud of. The talismanic swede is known for scoring great goals, and won the Puskas in 2014, for his ridiculous over-head kick from outside of the box against Joe Hart of England. Ibrahimovic has been linked with a return to former side AC Milan, with the Rossoneri said to be very inclined in signing the 33-year-old mercurial striker.
