Petr Cech turned in a performance of the highest quality, pulling off two world class saves to keep Liverpool FC at bay and earn a point for Arsenal FC in last night’s crunch Premier League tie.
The only reason that Liverpool FC were denied a goal yesterday was woodwork and Petr Cech.
Having had a rather poor start to his Arsenal FC career with two blunders against West Ham and an unconvincing performance against Crystal Palace, Cech was in inspired form against Liverpool FC.
In the first half, Cech made two saves that he had no right to. The first one coming when Roberto Firmino’s cross found Christian Benteke just two yards out from goal, ready to tap the ball in. While Benteke gave the goalkeeper the chance to save his shot by a lazy finish in which he did not blast the ball or lift it up a bit to get past the goalkeeper, a basic taught to any forward, it cannot be denied that it still required a world class save. Petr Cech obliged.
Later in the half, Coutinho bamboozled Hector Bellerin with quick feet on the inside left channel, and unleashed a curling shot that looked destined for the back of the net, only for Cech to get his finger tips to it and push the ball onto the post and out.
