Having sold Depay to Manchester United in the summer, PSV manager Philip Cocu has backed his former star to come good at Old Trafford.
Manchester United signed Depay in a A?25m deal from PSV Eindhoven after the attacker had finished the 2014-15 season a the top-scorer of the Dutch league.
Depay has had a somewhat mixed start to this career at United. From setting the pitch alight against Belgian side Club Brugge in the Champions League qualifiers to being subbed at half-time at Old Trafford against Liverpool FC, Depay has already seen ups and downs at his new club.
Cocu backs Depay for success
Depay has the backing of his former manager, Philip Cocu, who is confident that the former star will regain the goal-scoring touch that saw him net 22 times in Eredivisie to take PSV to the title.
Speaking ahead of the game, Cocu was quoted by ESPN FC as saying: “It’s normal you need some time to grow, you need a lot of games.
“Physically he’s very strong and he’s a quick learner also. And I’m sure when he gets some time he’ll get it very fast. He will bring goals. He’s a very vertical player who always likes to play towards the goal. Not only will he score goals, he has good vision.
“He will have some ups and downs. I’m sure when he’s been playing a few months, I’m convinced he’ll get better and better.”
