Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata scored the solitary goal for Spain in last night’s victory over Macedonia at the Nacionalna Arena.
The victory helped Spain maintain the top spot in Group C of Euro 2016 qualifying. La Roja are two points ahead of Slovakia with Ukraine currently in third.
In the opening 10 minutes Juan Mata took a free-kick from the right flank which was cleared by the Macedonian defence, but only as far as Mata, who attempted a shot from an acute angle and luckily, it went in.
It was not clear whether the former Chelsea FC midfielder attempted to shoot or intended to cross the ball which went it, but Mata won’t complain.
Spain take on Luxembourg and Ukraine in the final two matches of qualifying and it remains to be seen who will take the top spot from the group.
