As the two South American giants faced each other in a competitive match for the first time in six years, it was World Cup and Copa America runners-up Argentina, who seemed the more dangerous of the two teams.
In fact, the Argentines deservedly went ahead in the first half, with Ezequiel Lavezzi tapping in a Gonzalo Higuain cross. It was a spectacular goal, as Higuain was played a delightful through ball by Angel Di Maria, as the Napoli forward streaked off, down the right corner of the box, and sent a low cross in. Lavezzi cleverly disguised his run and peeped in between two Brazilian markers to tuck in a sweet goal.

The Brazilians also had their chances, especially after coach Carlos Dunga brought on Bundesliga’s highest assist-maker Douglas Costa. The FC Bayern Munich playmaker almost got on the scoresheet having one of his headers thunder against the bar. However, Santos playmaker Lucas Lima was on the spot to half-volley the rebound into the net, as the Brazilians drew level. You can watch the two goals in the video below.
