An impressive Arsenal FC display saw them outclass Everton 3-1 in the finals of the Barclays Asia Trophy at the National Stadium in Singapore. Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil all got on the score-sheet for The Gunners, while Ross Barkley gcot a consolation goal for The Toffees.
Arsenal FC who are touring Singapore as part of their pre-season tour, put a brilliant and controlled performance in front of a packed crowd. Theo Walcott was started as a striker and he duly delivered with a goal.
Walcott the striker that Arsenal need?
Theo Walcott, who is currently negotiating a new contract with The Gunners as he enters it’s final year was played as a striker, and he opened the scoring latching on to an over the top through ball from mid-fielder Santi Cazorla in the 22nd minute. Walcott used his pace to get clear of Seamus Coleman and toe-poked the ball into the bottom corner.
New Arsenal FC recruit Petr Cech was handed his debut, with the 33-year-old making some good saves for his new side. The former Chelsea FC man, pushed a Steven Naismith shot from close range on to the crossbar. Santi Cazorla pulled off some brilliant moves at the edge of the box, twice out-foxing James McCarthy with his outrageous ball control, before sending the ball low into the bottom corner.
Ozil scored the 3rd and final goal for Arsenal FC, after some neat play between him and Cazorla released him through on goal. Barkley scored with an emphatic finish from the edge of the box to peg one back for the Merseyside club in the 75th minute. However, at the end Arsenal FC comfortably walked away with the Barclays Asia trophy.
Arsenal had previously beaten Singapore Select XI 4-0 in the previous match, with young striker Chuba Akpom netting a hat-trick.
