Van Gaal Insists He Will Not Leave Manchester United Post, Praises Fighting Display From His Players After Draw Against Chelsea FC

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has insisted that he will not resign despite speculation in the media that the Dutchman’s offer to step aside was turned down by the United board in the past week

Manchester United were held to a 0-0 draw by 15th placed Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on Monday, with the performance of the home side pleasing manager Louis van Gaal. The Red Devils struck the post and the crossbar in the first half as they controlled a tight game which, for the most part, lacked any real cutting edge from either side.

According to reports in the British media in recent weeks, Van Gaal was given the Stoke City and Chelsea FC games to save his job at Manchester United. However, even though United have picked up just one point from those games without scoring a single goal, it looks like the 64-year-old is set to continue at Old Trafford — at least for the moment.

Van Gaal believes players are fighting for him

Although United have now gone EIGHT games without a win in all competitions, Van Gaal insists he will not resign from his position, saying he has no reason to do so as his players continue to fight for him.

.

The Dutchman is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: “When the players give such a performance with a lot of pressure, there’s no reason to resign. The crisis here is the environment and you [the media] are part of that.

“The players are willing to fight for every metre. The manager is willing to fight. The members of staff are willing to fight and the board has every confidence in the staff and the manager.”

Sacking a possibility

The former Bayern Munich manager did acknowledge, however, that in today’s ‘crazy’ world, there is a chance that he could be sacked by Manchester United.

“In this crazy football world it can happen every day and also with me.

“When it happens to Jose Mourinho then it can happen with me.”

The Red Devils next face Swansea at home in the league, and despite their manager’s fighting words, anything other than a win in that game might just sound the death knell for the Dutchman at Old Trafford.
