Relegation threatened Newcastle United pulled off an upset on high flying Liverpool at St James’ Park and handed a 2-nil defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s men and the Reds fans were not happy about it.

An own goal by Martin Skrtel and a late counter leading to a goal by Georginio Wijnaldum sealed a much needed win for Newcastle United playing at home to Liverpool. Twitter reacted to this surprising result, with most people calling it a reality check for the Reds.

Check out some of the twitter reactions to the match below.

The gods of football assigned six goals to Liverpool this week, they chose to score it all against Southampton. Who is to blame? #SSFootball

Reality check #LFC a Shiraz Khan (@Shiraz109) December 6, 2015

A big banana skin, we duly obliged & slipped on it. Looked and felt like a home performance. Newcastle were excellent. Reality check… #LFC

Dose of reality for #LFC hysterics. Klopp’s good, but it’ll take 12 months at least for his ideas to be embedded & that remains a poor squad a James Clark (@MotoClark) December 6, 2015

Back to drawing board for JA?rgen as he realises why English Premier League is toughest football league! Every game’s a cup final vs #LFC

It also provided a chance for rival club fans to take a dig and even a conspiracy theory…

We’ve drawn 0-0 in 5/9 games, yet Liverpool have still managed to go 3 points further behind us in their ‘title challenger’ form. ?Y a Georgie (@FutbolSloth) December 6, 2015

All part of the cunning plan. Chelsea now 2 points off relegation. #LFC

But in the end Liverpool fans do realize that it’s one blimp in an otherwise good period.

Just one of those days, that. Not a great game but nothing another good run of results won’t fix. #LFC
