It hasn’t even been 24 hours since Real Madrid crashed out of the Champions League and Carlo Ancelotti’s next destination is already being discussed.
The defending champions were beaten 3-2 on aggregate following a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu and the result comes at a particularly tough time for Los Blancos as their hopes of winning La Liga faded after a 2-2 draw with Valencia, that now leaves them four points behind Barcelona with two games to play, a gap they are very unlikely to make up.
At clubs of the same stature as Real Madrid, a trophyless season usually equates with the manager losing his job.
a This is Real Madrid, if you don’t deliver every year, you have to go. That’s just how it is,a said Thierry Henry.
a We would be happy to see him in the Premier League. He’s a great manager and a great guy.a
Henry also spoke about former France teammate Zinedine Zidane being the possible replacement for the Italian and said that Zidane could do an effective job for the Madrid side in case he is asked to take over.
a I think Zidane can take the job because Pep Guardiola had to do that. When he was with the youth team at Barca everyone said it was too early but he did it well. Zidane can be the guy and one thing in his favour is the crowd would be patient because he is a legend.a
Ancelotti meanwhile insisted that he wanted to stay on with the side.
“I would like to stay. But the club has the right to change the coach if they are not happy.
a If the club is happy with the work Ia ve done in two years, then I can continue. If they are not happy, they have to make a decision. I know how football works,a said the former Chelsea and AC Milan manager
a There is not much point talking about the future today. I would always give myself 10 out of 10 because I always give everything to my work, although I dona t like awarding myself a mark.a
Manchester City and Liverpool are two clubs in the top five of the Premier League that could possibly be looking at new managers in the summer and Ancelotti could be one of the shortlisted candidates for either side. The manager already has experience in England having worked with Chelsea in the past.
