A day after revealing that Liverpool can match Raheem Sterling’s ambition for trophies, manager Brendan Rodgers has said that there is no chance of the youngster leaving the club come summer.
Sterling’s case has become a real headache for Liverpool as the 20-year old isn’t impressed with Liverpool’s status of challenging for honours and as a result, hasn’t signed a contract extension yet despite being offered a good salary. The former QPR academy product is contracted with the club until 2017, but Liverpool want to tie him down to a longer and a more lucrative deal that Sterling rejected.
Sterling also admitted that he was flattered after he found out that Arsenal were interested in him. With all that is going on, you would think that there is a potential transfer saga simmering to happen in the coming summer with Sterling at the heart of it.
The Liverpool boss however played down a potential move taking place when he was asked about it, a I dona t see it, no.a
Rodgers was also asked if the club’s owners will let him go if they receive a bid that will be hard to turn down. The Ulsterman hinted that even such a situation will not make Liverpool part ways with their crowned jewel, a Listen, ultimately I cannot speak for the owners, but I have a good idea of what they would do. I know them well from my time here and for me it would not happen.
a Hea s not going anywhere in the summer – Liverpool is one of the superpowers of football and the owners have made it clear the money doesna t come into it. If the club doesna t want to sell, they wona t.
a If any player ever left – Raheem or any other, it would be on the terms of the club. We, as a club, have shown [in previous cases] that ita s not the case that money talks.
a But thata s a long, long way off.”
Sterling’s stock has risen over the last two seasons and he was even declared the golden boy winner for the year 2014. The Jamaican-born attacker has been a key factor in Liverpool’s resurrection in the second half of the season after a poor first half of the season where they lacked the cohesion of last season. Sterling has shown his versatility this season as he has been deployed in a number of positions including a striker and as a wing-back.
