Schweinsteiger Warned Against Manchester United Move; Giggs Demands Consistency

Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer has warned Bastian Schweinsteiger against a move to Manchester United. While Ryan Giggs has insisted that the club needs to be a lot more consistent next season.

Schweinsteigera s current contract with the German champions expires in 2016 and the German international future at the club has come under a lot of speculation this summer. The 30-year-old, who has been at the club since 1998, is no longer a regular in the starting line-up under Bayern manager Pep Guardiola. Reports have linked him with a possible move to Manchester United, as the Red Devils look to bolster their squad this summer.

Bastian Schweinsteiger has made only 15 starts in the Bundesliga last season as his fitness concerns and the arrival of Xavi Alonso has raised question marks over his place in the squad. Guardiola has preferred Alonso in the deep-lying role, which Schweinsteiger fancies, in most of the big matches since his arrival. Now with his contract up for renewal, the German international could possibly look for a move elsewhere in order to start regularly.

Former Bayern Munich player Roy Makaay and Lothar Matthaus have both insisted that the midfielder should consider a move to Old Trafford if the opportunity arise. Matthaus believes that at his age it will be hard for Schweinsteiger to change his game to suit Guardiolaa s system; instead he needs a coach who believes in his abilities and will build a system around him. In Louis van Gaal, Schweinsteiger will have a manager who has worked with him before and this might help in Uniteda s aim to seal the deal.

Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer has however warned the German against such a move and he feels that Schweinsteiger will find it difficult to adjust to a new league at this age. Instead, he should remain at the club for two more years, before considering a move to MLS.

“It is hard to adapt to another top European league at his age. He should stay at Bayern, where he can play at the top level for another year or two.

“Bastian has always had a style of play that puts strain on him. He has played on the top level for many years and he will have to pay for that.

“Afterwards he can see out his career in the U.S.” a Beckenbauer said . .

Meanwhile, Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs feels that his club needs to be a lot more consistent next season, if they are to challenge for silverwares. United assistant manager is excited at the prospect of the club being back in the Champions League next season and insists that they can compete with the best.

a We’ve had a pretty good start and are back in the Champions League, which is exciting.

a I think we can achieve a lot as we have shown this year we are capable of matching the best teams in the league.

a Now we just have to work on our consistency, and if we get off to a good start next season we can definitely do that.a a The former Manchester United star said.

Giggs also spoke about his experience so far in the coaching role, revealing the things that he has learned over the past few months.

a The biggest thing you learn going from player to coach is not to think like a player any more, but to think like a coach.

a As a player you’re pretty selfish – you want to do well and you know what you’re capable of doing and how to get it.

a I wanted to be the best as a player and I want to be the best as a coach. That means working hard and doing everything you can to achieve that but also enjoying the challenge.

a You need to get the best out of 25, maybe 30, different individuals so you need to find what makes them tick and how you’re going to get the best out of them.a a He added.
