Bastian Schweinsteiger’s admiration for Paul Scholes has been revealed by Quinton Fortune as the two midfielders’ clubs, Bayern Munich and Manchester United to meet in Sunday’s Legends match at Old Trafford.
Bayern Munich and Manchester United played in a charity game last year which ended in a 3-3 draw with Paul Scholes captaining Manchester United and getting on the score sheet.
Ex- ManchesterUnited defender Quinton Fortune played with Paul Scholes in the United Legends’ line-up that day, and will do so again this weekend when the two side meet.
Fortune in an interview to the club’s TV channel told about Paul Scholes’ encounter with the Germany stalwart:
“Ia ll never forget something really special that happened, when Schweinsteiger waited for Scholesy at half-time so he could get his shirt.”
“This is someone who had just won the World Cup, and he was there waiting like a fan. I have a lot of respect for Bayerna s players for gestures like that, but it also shows the amount of respect people have for Scholes.”
.
Paul Scholes said at the time: “Schweinsteiger gave me one of his shirts as well, which was nice of him.”
“He is an amazing footballer so it was nice to speak to him and I was quite pleased. I’m not sure why he wanted my shirt though!”
A debate about the best English midfielder of this generation was sparked again recently when Steven Gerrard left Liverpool FC.
Quinton Fortune was in no doubt as to who was the best: “They shouldna t even be having this conversation. Ita s like comparing Mayweather to Ali – in my opinion, it’s just no comparison. It has to be Scholes.”
The debate of the best English midfielder of their generation among Gerrard, Lampard, and Scholes is something that has caught a lot of people. Clearly, there is no unanimous agreement with club loyalties as well as perception of greatest differing for everyone, even Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher as seen below.
