Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo became the club’s all-time top scorer last month, reaching yet another milestone in his illustrious career. But the 30-year old has refused to confirm his future at the Santiago Bernabeu, hinting that his time at Madrid could soon be over.
Ever since Rafael Benitez took over the reigns from Carlo Ancelotti, there have been umpteen reports of spats between Benitez and Ronaldo, but while both have dismissed the claims, the Portuguese is still uncertain of his future in the Spanish capital.
On undecided future
After six successful seasons at Real Madrid, the three-time Ballon d’Or winner is perhaps looking at other options, after he refused to confirm his future.
“At the moment I am happy playing at Real Madrid, but I dona t know what will happen in the future. I have to choose what makes me happy,” Ronaldo told EFE.
On his haters, and being compared with Messi
After he arrived in Madrid, the El Clasico has become more about the Ronaldo-Messi rivalry rather than Real Madrid vs Barcelona. This is the level of hype that the media and fans have created, but Ronaldo believes, in his head, that he is better than Messi.
“Some people may say [Lionel] Messi [is the best], but in my mind I am always the best. I think thata s vital for all people that want to be the best.”
“I try to see the good from the people that hate [on me]. They encourage me. I dona t need them, but that are not my enemies, no. They are part of this business [football]. “
Could this be Ronaldo’s last season at the Bernabeu? .
The former Manchester United superstar has scored 12 goals in as many appearances in La Liga this season, but there have been patches of inconsistency to his game. However, it is just a passing phase, and Ronaldo will get back to his brilliant best sooner rather than later.
But the Portuguese has won enough trophies and personal accolades at Real Madrid, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he wants to start looking at other options and move on for the last phase of his career.
