Indian footballer Romeo Fernandesa name gets inscribed in the pages of history books, as he becomes the first Indian to play in Brazilian top-tier football.
The Dempo SC man joined Brazilian club Atletico Paranaense on loan this February. After 3 months of training with the club, the Goan footballer finally got an opportunity to showcase his talent today in a game against Nacional Atletico Clube in the Campeonato Paranaense tournament. He was brought in as a substitute in the 67th minute. Atletico Paranaense won the encounter by 5 goals to nil.
Romeo was a product of Dempo SCa s youth setup. He made his debut for the Indian club in the 2011-12 season of the I-League. He came into prominence while playing in the inaugural edition of the Indian Super League for the FC Goa side. He was neglected in the initial stages of the tournament, but the club manager Zico brought him into the first team in the latter stages. He scored 3 goals in total in 11 appearances and attracted several eyeballs by displaying wonderful skills on the pitch.
His performance for the FC Goa side helped him to earn a trial with the Brazilian club. After a successful trial he joined the side on 15th February 2015.
