Liverpool FC manager Brendan Rodgers had a tough task of addressing the press after the Anfield side crashed to a morale crushing 3-0 defeat to West Ham at home. Rodgers accepted that the performance as a whole was disappointing, and the defending should improve. The Reds’ manager also vowed to bounce back in their next game.
Liverpool FC made a decent start to the new season, until last night. West Hama s early goal undone the plan of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who had set up hoping to keep their fourth clean sheet in as many games.
Individual mistakes were at the forefront in each of the three goals, as Liverpool crashed to their first defeat at home to West Ham since 1963.
Rodgers accepts defending must improve
Speaking post the loss, Rodgers said that the overall performance of Liverpool FC was disappointing and that the defending must improve.
“The first goal is a cheap goal and that gave them a motivation and fight,” Rodgers told BBC Sport.
“We didn’t defend moments well at all. We need to be much better than that. That opportunity to work the goalkeeper didn’t happen. We are disappointed but we’ll reflect on it and come back and look to win our next game.”

Rodgers labels the performance ‘disappointing’
“We were disappointing today. We went in with confidence high but when you give away a goal so early it gave West Ham a boost,” he said. “I think it was the overall performance with and without the ball. We disappointed right from the off.
“Once we conceded that early goal we just couldn’t get back into the game. The moral and confidence has been really high and they have been developing and improving. A lot of it today was self-inflicted. We gave poor goals away and that was the biggest disappointment.”
