Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is of the opinion that his former Old Trafford team-mate Javier Hernandez is a fantastic player who has the best movement in the World.
The 36-year-old spent 12 successful years at Old Trafford and feels that the answer to the Red Devil’s profligacy in the front of goal is available within the squad in the form of Javier Hernandez. The 27-year-old has been at the club for 5 years now, however, he has never been trusted enough by the manager’s to lead the line for Manchester United. But, Ferdinand is of the opinion that the striker, who spent last year at loan to Real Madrid has one of the best movement inside the box, when the ball is sprayed out wide.
How he is not a regular in that team baffles me – Ferdinand on Chicharito’s sporadic first team appearances
Hernandez earlier played second fiddle to Wayne Rooney and later fell down the pecking order after the arrival of mercurial Dutchman Robin Van Persie. He was shipped out to Real last term, under new manager Louis Van Gaal, who had claimed that the Mexican was not part of his plans, with the wealth of strikers including Rooney, Van Persie and loan-singing Radamel Falcao at his disposal. However, the former Red Devils defender feels that if the 27-year-old is afforded the confidence by the manager, he could be capable of scoring 25-goals per season.
Speaking in an interview, as quoted by . The Guardian, he said:
“They have got Chicharito there and he is a fantastic player a how he is not a regular in that team baffles me.
I think in terms of movement, when the ball goes wide, he has the best movement in the world. But he has not been afforded that confidence from the manager as yet to say: a You are my No9, you get me 25 goals this season, you are playing every game.a
And until he gets that, you will not know if he is capable of doing it.a
Will Van Gaal trust Javier Hernandez to lead the line for Manchester United?
Red Devils manager Louis Van Gaal is believed to be in the transfer market looking to sign a super-striker, following the departure of Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie. Falcao’s season-long loan was not extended by Manchester United, while Van Persie was sold by the club to Turkish side Fenerbahce. This leaves the club with Wayne Rooney and Real Madrid return- Chicharito as the two recognized strikers in their ranks.
Van Gaal has insisted that the Mexican is part of his plans this term and should be afforded some game time. If Ferdinand’s assessment of the striker is correct then Manchester United don’t need to look far to find an answer to their goal-scoring woes, considering the dearth of world-class strikers in the footballing world as of now.
