Ezequiel Garay and Kiko Casilla could return to Real Madrid this summer as the Spanish cluba s contingency plan to replace Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas.
.
According to Spanish media AS, Real Madrid could sign two of their former players, Ezequiel Garay and Kiko Casilla, if Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas depart from Bernab u this transfer window.
Real Madrid have been involved in a transfer battle with Manchester United throughout this summer over the signing of David De Gea. The English club have made it hard for the Spanish giants to pursue the goalkeeper, who was at the top of their priority list. United have set their sights on Sergio Ramos, in exchange for De Gea, and this transfer saga is far from reaching its finale.
Meanwhile, Iker Casillas is close to joining Portuguese club Porto and according to Marca, both the clubs are close to reaching an agreement over his transfer. Portoa s main concern was Casillasa huge wage bill, and the Madrid club will have to pay a part of the salary that Casillas was entitled to in the days that were left in his current contract. But the bigger concern for Real Madrid is the fact that they are yet to reach an agreement to sign Casillasa replacement, David De Gea.
Keylor Navasa injury is likely to keep him out for three-four more weeks and in Casillasa absence Real Madrid will have to turn to the inexperienced Fernando Pacheco. This has forced the Spanish club to look for a plan b, in case the David De Gea deal faces further complications, and they have turned their attention to one of their former academy graduates, Kiko Casilla.
The 28-year-old rose through the youth ranks at Real Madrid, before joining Espanyol in 2007. Casillaa s current contract with the Spanish club runs till 2018, and AS suggest that Real Madrid could sign him for a fee as low as a 3 million. He will be a stop-gap replacement for Iker Casillas, till De Gea arrives.
The Spanish media also claims that Real Madrid have lined up a move for Ezequiel Garay, if Sergio Ramos joins Manchester United this summer. The 28-year-old spent two seasons with Los Blancos after joining them from Racing Santander in 2009. After failing to grab a regular place in the starting line-up, Garay left the club and went on to play for Benfica and Zenit since then.
Real Madrida s first choice replacement for Ramos is of course Valencia center back Nicolas Otamendi, who has also been linked with Manchester United. Garay is a back-up option is they fail to sign the 27-year-old defender.
