If Real Madrid fail to sign David De Gea this summer, they will look into Bernd Leno as an alternative to the Spaniard.
It is almost certain that David de Gea will leave Manchester United this summer and make a move to Real Madrid as Iker Casillasa replacement. Though the 24-year old remains Los Blancosa priority, the club is keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen keeper, Bernd Leno. Real Madrid have been following the keepera s progress all season and they like him so much that they may bring him on even if De Gea signs for the club.
According to popular Spanish daily, Marca, Real Madrid are keen on Bernd Leno as they consider two possibilities. In the first case, if De Gea refuses to join the Spanish giants, Leno will be brought in as an alternative to the Spaniard. In the second case, Real Madrid are looking to sign both keepers if Casillas decides to leave this summer. In such a scenario, The Whites will sign both De Gea and Leno to compete each other for a place between the sticks.
Barcelona did the same thing this season as they signed two world-class keepers in Claudio Bravo and Marc Andre Ter-Stegen and it worked very well for the Catalans. However, it would be interesting to see if either of De Gea or Leno will be convinced to not be the first choice keeper and fight for their place in the starting 11.
Bernd Leno, 23, is a fabulous talent and has done a very good job at Leverkusen this season. It is believed that the German is keen on a move to Madrid and is eagerly awaiting the cluba s decision. However, it is not clear whether the youngster will be ready to play second fiddle to the more talented and celebrated David de Gea.
