Speaking after his side’s 3-1 win over Celta Vigo on Saturday, manager Rafael Benitez expressed satisfaction with the performance of his players as Real Madrid climbed to the top of the La Liga table.

Despite a series of injuries to several of his star players, Benitez’s Real Madrid saw off a stiff challenge from Celta Vigo as Ronaldo, Danilo and Marcelo scored a goal apiece to secure three crucial points.

Having travelled to Paris to play PSG on Wednesday in the Champions League, Real Madrid were given less than 72 hours to prepare for their match against high flying Celta Vigo in the La Liga. A strong performance by Keylor Navas kept Real Madrid in the game as a late goal by Marcelo ensured a crucial away win for Rafael Benitez.

We suffered at the end – Benitez

As reported by the official club website, Benitez expressed his joy after an important win for Real Madrid.

a We had a great game against PSG and today we had lots of chances to decide the game sooner. In the end we struggled a bit because we needed to score the third goal earlier.a

The manager also praised his squad as Real Madrid continue to struggle with a series of injuries.

.

a These games, with the injuries we have, have allowed us to really value the squad we have. We have continued to win using other players and that is really positive.

a We showed quality, character and I am satisfied.”

Having been forced to field various different starting line-ups this season, Benitez believes that his team showed character by earning three points against Celta Vigo to go to the top of the table. Barcelona will be looking to equal Real Madrida s tally on the top of the table as they face Eibar at home. However, Madrida s superior goal-difference will ensure that Beniteza s men stay on the top atleast till the next round of fixtures.
