Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to win four European Golden Boot awards for being the top goal-scorer in leagues across Europe. However, manager Rafael Benitez has backed his star to keep scoring more goals.
Cristiano Ronaldo has now won four Golden Boots, more than any other player in the history of the game.
Benitez Confident Ronaldo Can Keep Setting Record
Cristiano Ronaldo said that he plans to keep wining more Golden Boots and manager Rafael Benitez has backed the Portuguese to do so.
He was quoted saying by Goal.com: “Cristiano Ronaldo keeps on setting new records. Obviously we’re talking about a player with a lot of talent and quality, and to surpass RaA?l as the club’s all-time top goalscorer says it all.
.
“This is a player who is not only smashing records, but who is still hungry for more, full of ambition and capable of improving on his figures even further.”
Ronaldo A Team Player: Benitez
The Real Madrid manager went on to add that the star forward’s acknowledgement of the role his team-mates played in getting him to the tally of 45 goals in 38 games was a sign of him being a team-man and the ultimate professional.
Benitez said:”These numbers, figures and trophies are extremely difficult to achieve and they show that he is a very persistent player who possesses that inner drive to better himself which sets him apart.
“Whenever you have a player who scores so many goals, the team are going to win more games. He spoke clearly and thanked his team-mates.
“He’s aware of how big a role they play for him and all the success he is enjoying.”
Three of the four Golden Boot awards for Ronaldo have come during his time at Real Madrid, with the exception being the 2007-08 season with Manchester United, where he cemented his name among the best players in the world.
If Ronaldo is to win the award once again, as he himself has stated and the manager has backed him to, he will have to beat off competition from Robert Lewandowski, for sure. The Pole has grabbed an incredible 12 goals already this season, with Ronaldo 7 behind him with 5 goals.
