Petr Cech Reveals The Reason For Leaving Chelsea FC For Arsenal FC

Former Chelsea FC goalkeeper Petr Cech has revealed that the lure of winning the Premier League title is what made the Czech international join Arsenal FC.

Petr Cech left Chelsea FC in the summer to join crosstown rival Arsenal FC, having fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge due to the return from loan of young Belgian Thibaut Courtois.

The stopper made a 10m GBP move to Arsenal FC and after a shaky start, has been one of the key players as the Gunners made their way to the top of the table.

Revealing the reason for choosing the Gunners, Cech was quoted saying by Goal.com: “It was not an easy decision but I always wanted to go to a team which could win.

“If I didna t believe that I was going to a team which could win then I don’t know why I would come.

“I play football, not to only enjoy it and I love the challenge of playing and competing with the best players, but I want to have the chance to win games.”

Cech confident of title glory at Arsenal FC

Arsenal FC have last won the league in the 2003-04 season, but have since endured a difficult period as the club rebuilt itself, having lost the competitive edge due to funds being redirected towards the building of the Emirates Stadium.

Expressing his confidence in breaking that duck, the current league leader’s stopper said: “I believe this team has the qualities to win games and hopefully we will manage to go all the way in the league.

“It’s a very difficult and long run but I believe this team has the capabilities of doing it.

a We are in a good position, we are in the mix of the teams who will play to win the title so we want to stay in that position for as long as possible and every time we have a chance to improve our position then we would love to do it.”

Can Arsenal FC win the league?

Arsenal have hardly had a squad better-equipped to be challenging for the title, especially given the form of the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. However, it is the lack of a quality forward that seems to be the biggest hurdle in Arsenal’s path. If Olivier Giroud can remain injury free and maintain his current form, Arsenal will take some shifting from the top of the table in the coming months and they certainly can go all the way.
