The Bayern Munich juggernaut continued moving ahead with a 3-1 victory over FC Schalke 04 away at the Veltins-Arena, but for Manuel Neuer one goal was one too many to concede.

Bayern Munich took the lead as early as the 9th minute, with a deflected shot from David Alaba but Max Meyer soon scored an equaliser in the 17th minute, and Schalke kept Bayern at bay for more than 50 minutes before conceding a header to Javi Martinez.

World cup winning striker Thomas Muller rubbed salt in their wounds with a third goal, scored two minutes into extra time, to take the final score to 3-1. But, Manuel Neuer rebuked himself for allowing a goal in.

“Meyer’s shot was a bit unpleasant, but I should still have saved it,” Neuer was quoted as saying by Bayern Munich’s official website, according to goal.com.

“His shot gained speed when it hit the wet surface. I wanted to push it around the post, but I sadly failed to do that.”

Manuel Neuer also recognised the positive results of the match, acknowledging that the team was moving forward but said that anything could happen in the tournament.

.

“We deserved our win over Schalke and are now eight points ahead of Dortmund,”, he said, “But nothing has been decided yet. We have not won anything yet.”

Second place Borussia Dortmund had earlier been upset 3-1 by Hamburg on Friday, and that has now opened up a huge gap between them and the league leaders. And Bayern Munich look unstoppable at the moment, even without Robert Lewandowski scoring goals as usual.
