England and Southampton full-back Nathaniel Clyne is expected to sign for Liverpool FC after undergoing his medical, today, according to Sky Sports and Liverpool Echo. The player will be unveiled on Wednesday.

Fresh from the acquisition of Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim in a 29 million pound deal, Liverpool FC are set to pull off another coup by snapping up Nathaniel Clyne who is set to undergo a medical at Melwood on Monday as his 12.5 million pounds move from Southampton nears completion.

The right-back is expected to sign a five-year contract after the two clubs agreed a deal last week.

.

Liverpool FC had an initial bid of A?10 million for Clyne rejected in May, but returned with a higher offer that will see Southampton receive a fee of A?12.5 million.

The right back was a priority area for Liverpool FC in the transfer window with Glen Johnson leaving on a free transfer, Javier Manquillo failing to be a part of manager’s plan with Brendan Rodgers considering offloading him amidst rumored interest from Benfica or the player heading back to Atletico Madrid. Liverpool’s other right back Jon Flanagan has been injured for 12 months now and is set to miss another 8 months.

The Southampton right back is widely regarded as one one the best young right backs in the league. And Southampton have signed Sporting Lisbona s Cedric Soares to ensure the right back spot is already filled following Clyne’s exit.

Clyne began his career at Crystal Place, where he started at the age of 7. He went up the youth ranks and cemented himself in the senior squad after making his debut as a 17 year old. He was named a Crystal Palacea s Player of the Yeara after the 2010-11 season, where he featured for the side in every single game, becoming the youngest player in the Football League to do so.

In July 2012, he was signed by newly promoted Southampton. Clyne has made 104 appearances since joining Southampton from Crystal Palace in 2012. His good performances over the last season even earned him a call up to the England squad and is touted by many to establish himself as the first choice right back for England in the coming years.

It does seem like Liverpool FC have snapped up yet another talented Englishman, and another signing from Southampton.
