Mourinho “Surprised” By Massive 5-0 Scoreline Win Against Swansea

Chelsea’s manager Jose Mourinho, was left surprised following his team’s 5-0 win over Swansea City. Oscar, opened the floodgates for Chelsea, as early as the 1st minute itself, following a moment of error by Swansea’s Sigurdsson. Diego Costa, was quick to add another in the 20th minute, following a tacky one touch move, which involved as many as eight Chelsea players. Costa, took advantage of a back pass from Swansea’s defense and pounced on to score his second of the game in the 34th minute. The first half humiliation was complete in the 36th minute, when Oscar, who also scored his second of the game, slotted a well timed first touch finish, following a cut-back by Diego Costa. Substitute Andre Schurrle scored in the 79th minute, to complete a 5-0 mauling of Swansea City. Although, the Blue delivered a decent and impressive performance, manager Jose Mourinho was “surprised” by the massive scoreline.

“Swansea are top 10 but maybe top five in the quality of their football. 5-0 is unexpected for us but everything went in our direction” Mourinho said.

“It was very good, we were solid, we were recovering the ball in good positions, we were dangerous in counter-attacks, the decisions made in front of the ball were always the best decisions. We hit the post twice, we could have finished with even more. I am happy with the points and the quality of our football.

“Thata s the best way to respect ourselves, our opponents, and football. Thata s what we did and they did the same, they knew it was impossible to win the game but they fought for a different result. They were much more compact and solid.”

Mourinho, also clarified on the Cech-Courtois issue and asserted that it is necessary to take precautions. Petr Cech, has not started in three consecutive games for Chelsea.

“It is better, much better but if you have an injury in your finger – even if you are ready to play – you don’t train the same way.”

“During the week you protect the injury you have so I had no doubts in making the choice. I was happy with Petr’s performance, he’s confident and at the top of his potential.”

Mourinho, turned teacher and gave Gary Monk some advice.

“These are not my words but words from somebody else: a Ita s better to lose one match 5-0 than five matches 5-0′. So after this defeat they will react and get the points they deserve.”

“There are matches that are out of our control and we, as managers, cana t do much.

With this win Chelsea have carved open a five point lead at the top of the Premier League league table.
