The Chelsea FC manager believes that teams will lose more matches than normal and the Blues will need fewer points should they reclaim the league title next season.
Chelsea FC begin the new season as arguably the favourites to win the league following the retention of the title winning team that easily won the league last season.
However, following increased financial power that other clubs have in the league, winning the league will be more difficult than ever.
‘Fewer points to win the league’
Jose Mourinho reckons that fewer points will be needed to win the league next season due to the competitive nature of the league.
As quoted saying by . Sky Sports, Mourinho said: “To win the Premier League, we don’t need so many points as before.”
“I think more defeats, more lost points for the top teams. Crystal Palace buy (Yohan) Cabaye, as an example. I could give you much more examples.
“Welcome this mentality, welcome this economic power, welcome this ambition. If the Premier League was difficult, the Premier League will now be more difficult and I think less points will win the title.”
‘Chelsea need defenders’
Jose Mourinho went onto add that the club need to add defenders to the squad if they are to reclaim the league title.
Branislav Ivanovic, Kurt Zouma, Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta and John Terry are Chelsea’s only first-team defenders.
Mourinho told Sky Sports: “Five is not enough. That’s obvious. We cannot go to the Premier League with five defenders. That’s our weakness. The quality is good, the numbers are not.a
Chelsea FC have been heavily linked with a move for Everton defender John Stones, with the Merseyside outfit holding out for a fee crossing the 30 million GBP mark. But, Chelsea FC will have to beat off competition for the England man as Manchester United have reportedly set their eyes on him, too.
