In view of recent speculation linking Chelsea FC striker Diego Costa back with a move to Atl tico Madrid — fuelled by comments from the 27-year-old himself — Jos Mourinho has moved to quash talk of a transfer away from Stamford Bridge
Diego Costa’s troubles this season have been well documented, and there has been speculation in the Spanish and English media that the Brazil-born Spain international has not settled in London and could consider a move back to Madrid in the near future.
After an outstanding d but season in the Premier League in which Costa found the back of the net on 20 occasions, the former Atl tico Madrid hitman has found life difficult in his second season, failing to emulate his first-season form and coming under criticism for his antics on the pitch.
However, manager Jos Mourinho has insisted that his star striker is happy at Chelsea FC, and will stay for the duration of his contract, which is set to expire in 2020. The pair have themselves had very public disagreements this season, but it appears that their relationship is as good as ever.
Mourinho insisted he had no problems with Diego Costa’s recent comments regarding his former club. The Portuguese is quoted by the official Chelsea FC website as saying: “He said that in football you never know. Filipe Luis was one example, you could say also Fernando Torres is another example.
“Atleti is a great club, Madrid is a great city, La Liga is a very good league so why should a player who is 27 years old not think that in football it is possible to be back. I dona t see that as a problem.”
The 52-year-old also expressed his belief that the Chelsea FC striker is happy at the club and will stay for the remaining three years of his contract. “I dona t see Diego playing until 37 or 38, but he is happy here, he likes to be here,” added Mourinho. “He has I think three more years on his contract. I see him staying at Chelsea for three more years, no problem.”

Chelsea FC should keep hold of Diego Costa
Given the dearth of quality strikers available in the transfer market, it is extremely unlikely that Chelsea FC will be willing to part ways with Diego Costa any time soon. The likes of Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain have been linked in the past with the Stamford Bridge outfit, but constructing deals for either could be extremely problematic in light of the Blues’ present position.
If Mourinho is still in the managerial hot-seat at Stamford Bridge in the summer, his biggest challenge will arguably be to retain his key players, and even though Diego Costa hasn’t played his best football this season, there is no doubt that he is one of them.
