There is more bad news in store for Liverpool FC fans as centre-back Martin Skrtel has been ruled out from action for the next six weeks at least due to a hamstring injury.
The 31-year-old has been a constant in the heart of the Reds’ defence for a long time now, but is all set to miss out on the football action during the festive period of the season, with the injury.
A number of players have been suffering from soft tissue injuries in the Premier League this season, and Skrtel joins that long list with his own injury.
It was initially feared that Skrtel would be out of action for around three months. However, the Slovakian defender quelled those rumours, saying that he is expected back some time around February.
“After all rumours going around, I want to say the time I will spend on the sideline won’t be three months,” Skrtel was quoted as saying on Sky Sports.
“After I suffered a tear in my hamstring and tendon, I will be out for six weeks. I will work hard on my recovery and will do everything to come back as soon as possible and even stronger than before. Thanks for your support.”
Defensive crisis again at Anfield
With the Reds shipping three goals at Watford, Jurgen Klopp would have been looking to tighten the defence. Now however, he finds himself in a situation where he needs to fit another player into the backline first.
.
However, with Dejan Lovern also out with a knee injury, the only two options Klopp is left with at centreback are an ageing Kolo Toure, and Mamadou Sakho, who still seems to be trying to get back to full match fitness after coming back from his own injury.
