Sevilla player Vitolo hailed Lionel Messi’s performance in the UEFA Super Cup and said that the FC Barcelona superstar showed why he is the best player of all time in Barcelona’s 5-4 extra-time win.
The Argentina captain scored two free-kicks to give FC Barcelona the lead after Ever Banega’s early goal had pegged the Catalan Giants back.
FC Barcelona eventually raced to a 4-1 lead, but the Europa League winners clawed their way back to draw the game 4-4 in normal time and take it into extra-time.
In the 115th minute, Messi saw his shot saved, only for Pedro to pop up and score the winner.
Vitolo hails Messi impact
Sevilla winger Vitolo was full of praise of his side’s strong performance, but, admitted that an in-form Messi was impossible to overcome.
“Messi is the best player of all time and today he had a stormer,” he told reporters, as per Goal.com.
“The side put in a 10 out of 10 performance. We ran loads – it’s not easy to come back from 4-1 down against Barcelona.”

The win over Sevilla ensures that Messi and company have now won their fourth trophy this year and are well on their way to winning another sextuple, a repeat of 2009.

The manner of victory would have been much more convincing had the defense performed as well as the attack did, and one would imagine that Luis Enrique would not be too pleased after overseeing a campaign where the Blaugrana were the most efficient defensive team in La Liga in 2014-15 season.
However, the fact that the team managed to score five times despite the absence of Neymar will please Enrique as FC Barcelona prepare to face Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup in midweek.
