“For me, Manchester United is an absolute dream club, so I didn’t need any convincing of the guys who already play at Manchester United.

“They told me only positive things though, and I’m looking forward to playing with my Dutch teammates next to all the other great players of Manchester United. And working with manager Louis van Gaal again is also a big bonus.”

Liverpool was hot on the wingera s heels and were one of the top clubs interested in signing the youngster. When asked about why he rejected the Merseyside club, Depay said it was not because of the money.

“Yes [there were other clubs interested], but you shouldn’t believe all the rumors in the media. In the end it was just a matter of feeling, not a matter of money.”

The Holland international helped PSV dethrone Ajax and win their 22nd Eredivisie title this season. The 21-year old thanked the club for helping him in his development on and off the pitch. “I’ve learned so much at PSV, not only on the pitch but also as a person,” Depay continued.

“That makes me grateful, but I really felt it was time for me to move on. And you can’t deny the interest of a club like Manchester United.

“Ia m proud of winning the title with PSV. Ita s something the fans deserved, and something I wanted so bad as well.

“I wish the club all the best for coming season, and hopefully theya re lifting a trophy again next year.”

Manchester United reached an agreement with PSV over the signing of Depay on Thursday. The player will move to the Premier League club once the transfer window opens in June, subject to a medical.
