Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal believes Anthony Martial is an extremely versatile player, insisting that he can play in four different positions.
Anthony Martial, signed from Monaco last summer, has made an impressive start to his Manchester United career, scoring four goals in eight matches so far. The 19-year-old’s versatility was recognised by Van Gaal, as he was deployed on the left-wing in United’s 3-0 win at Everton.
“He can play, in my opinion, four positions,” the Dutchman said to MUTV.
.
“He can play at seven – as a right-winger, 11 – the left-winger, the striker’s position and also at 10, I believe.
Martial looked sharp in the number 9 position in his opening few games, but Van Gaal chose to retrograde him to his earlier role.
“He has played in Monaco always in the left-winger position and that is why I put him there against Everton.”
Martial is already a key player for Manchester United
After a disappointing first season at United, Van Gaal finally seems to be getting a grip of his side after pulling off a few convincing performances. However, with Wayne Rooney still not looking like his earlier self, Martial could play a key role up front for United. And although he is way too young to rely on, Van Gaal will know that he could be the trump card if United are to win any silverware this season.
