Barcelona have finally got two extremely talented goalkeepers in their squad and the custodians are performing day in and day out and giving each other a run for their money. Manager Luis Enrique has utilized both the goalkeepers tactfully. While Claudio Bravo has featured in each and every La Liga game for the league leaders, Marc-Andre ter Stegen has played in every Champions League and Spanish Cup matches.
Claudio Bravo was initially tipped to be the first choice keeper at Catalan club due to his reputation, but the young German custodian has done exceptionally well in the cluba s Champions League matches. Especially in the knock-out stages Ter Stegen has remained simply unbeatable.
In an interview, Ter Stegen said that he is confident about his performance and does not consider himself as a backup goalkeeper in this side. On other hand, he also mentioned that he shares an extremely healthy relationship with the Chilean international Claudio Bravo.
He was quoted, “I don’t see myself as a backup goalkeeper. I don’t remember a backup goalkeeper that played all Champions League matches.”
“Having to alternate appearances with Bravo? It’s not the most pleasant situation, which is no secret. I would obviously like to play in all matches.”
“I have a very good relationship with Bravo, and I don’t have any problems with him. We talk constantly, and wish nothing but the best to him. That said, I want his spot.”
It is a great sign for the Catalans as they have got two of the finest keepers in the world right now. It is up to the manager to handle the situation carefully and maintain this healthy competition among his two players.
