With a number of key players like Wayne Rooney, Morgan Schneiderlin and Luke Shaw out with injury, the 19 man United squad travelling to Germany features some relative unknowns.
.
Morgan Schneiderlin came off during the match against West Ham and has now joined the likes of Wayne Rooney, Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo on the Manchester United injury list. This means that the Red Devils travel to the Volkswagen Arena in Wolfsburg with a number of key players unfit to play and a selection dilemma on their hands.
The likes of Cameron-Borthwick Jackson, Guillermo Varela, Sean Goss and forgotten midfielder Nick Powell, who is believed to be lacking match fitness, are part of the squad travelling to Germany. It is believed that Paddy McNair, who also suffered an injury in the West Ham match, will be fit to start the game against Wolfsburg, according to Manchester United’s official website.
For Wolfsburg, defender Dante who impressed in their last game against Manchester United will be available to play, while Luis Gustavo, Ricardo Rodriquez and Robin Knoche will miss out on the game through injuries.
Chance for United’s forgotten men to shine
A number of fringe players in the Manchester United team will have the opportunity to cement a place in the starting XI in the crucial Champions League encounter. Maroune Fellaini and wingers Memphis Depay and Ashley Young have found themselves out of van Gaal’s scheme of the things, but the injuries to key players offers them an opportunity to make a strong case for regular places in the starting XI.
