Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is said to be trying to woo attacking players to the Theater of Dreams in an attempt to improve his side’s offence, and one of the players in his list seems to be Dutch winger Arjen Robben.
Robben is a proven quality in the Premier League as he had played for Chelsea FC, and it seems that the Dutch star is looking for a move away from current club FC Bayern Munich.
“United manager Louis van Gaal is keen to add some pace to his forward line and Robben is understood to be keen to leave Bayern Munich,” writes Adam Skinner of the Daily Express.
“Van Gaal has already expressed his desire to make a marquee signing in the January transfer window and might continue his spending spree after completing a deal for the 31-year-old,” continued Skinner.
Reported fallout with Lewandowski driving Robben out
The main reason why Robben seems to be seeking a move away from the Bavarian club seems to be his reported fallout with FC Bayern Munich’s main target-man Robert Lewandowski.
The Polish striker has already scored 19 goals for FC Bayern Munich this season, and has formed a formidable partnership up front with Thomas Mueller and Douglas Costa, making the Bayern front-three an absolute nightmare for the opposition defenders.
However, due to this apparent fallout, life in Bavaria seems to have become a nightmare for Robben too.
“The Dutchman is reported to have fallen out with Bayern Munich team-mate Robert Lewandowski, which has paved the way for his exit from the Bundesliga,” writes Skinner.

Inclusion of Robben to inject pace in Manchester United attack
Manchester United boss van Gaal has come under some criticism for his side’s inability to create good chances in spite of having lots of possession. Slow and cautious attacks have left the Red Devils a little dry in front of goal, and this seems to have prompted the Dutch manager to look for pacey attacking options.
Of course, there are very few attacking options that would be as fast as Robben, and the Dutch winger is expected to give a shot in the arm (or rather leg) to the Manchester United attack. His inclusion would also stretch the play, as Robben does make darting runs hugging the touch line, often making inward runs, as he dribbles past defenders.
