Liverpool FC face a potential battle to sign Nathaniel Clyne, with Manchester United expected to renew their interest in the Southampton full back.

Liverpool Echo reports that Manchester United may renew their interest in the English right back having missed out on primary target Dani Alves who renewed his contract with FC Barcelona following their treble winning campaign.

.

Manchester United were monitoring the contract situation of Nathaniel Clyne with the player yet to sign a contract extension with a year left on his deal at Southampton, but, then turned away their attention to Dani Alves.

Liverpool FC had a A?10m bid for Nathaniel Clyne rejected last month, with Southampton understood to be holding out for A?15m for the England international.

Liverpool FC are yet to return with an improved offer but are understood to retain a strong interest in the Southampton player.

Liverpool had signed Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren from Southampton last summer with Manchester United snapping up left back Luke Shaw.

Southampton have already been linked with a potential replacement for Nathaniel Clyne with Portuguese paper O Jogo suggesting they are close to signing Portugal international Cedric Soares from Sporting Lisbon.

Both, Liverpool FC and Manchester United have had trouble in the right back area this season.

Liverpool FC had deployed Markovic, Ibe, Can following injuries to Flanagan, and Glen Johnson who is set to depart the club. Javier Manquillo failed to impress following a loan move from Atletico Madrid.

Whilst Manchester United have been playing Antonio Valencia there with Louis van Gaal less than impressed with Rafael da Silva.

It increasingly looks likely that Manchester United could turn their attention back to Nathaniel Clyne with the player yet to agree a move elsewhere or sign a new contract with Southampton.
